What poetry is to me!

To me poetry is the most expressive form of writing. It is not just jotting down facts or random thoughts, it is putting together emotions and experiences that describe who you are. It allows you to use your imagination and write whatever you want. You have very little instruction on what you have to write, meaning no limitations! Every poem is unique to your experiences but the more specific you are the more other people can relate. Details allow others to paint a picture of what is happening and relate it to what they know. Readers are able to get other perspectives and see the world in a whole new light.
Writing poetry is a stress free activity that allows me to vent and write about what I am feeling. I am able to write things that I am not usually able to say or express in any other way. You can write something fiction or something so far out there that even at first you might be confused about. No one can judge poetry and tell you what it really means. Everyone has their own style and way of writing and that is what makes it relevant to everyone. Things such as rhyme or comparisons might make a poem sound better but it's the concrete detail and the individual experiences that truly make a poem great. In writing poetry I think one should be relaxed and just forget about all the chaos around them. They should put on a song or find something in nature that sparks their interest and then just write whatever comes to mind. There is no right or wrong thing to say and the unorganized thoughts are what make the final piece special. Even though poems can be very personal and hard to share those are the ones that contain the most meaning. Poetry is what you choose to make it and can beautify even the simplest things.
